Hello,
Just got back from Ubud, Bali for the exhibition. It was exhausting but fun. Thank you to Hellen Sjuhada for organizing and curating the exhibition at Alila Ubud. In case you missed the opening, the show will be until October 31st, 2011.

Allow your senses to be awoken amorously and get enchanted, ecstatically. Two young artists from the big city merged themselves with the surrounding of Ubud. They gave themselves to each other, honored one another and all of creation in the union, recognizing the infinite ancestral familiarity. Is it them flirting with the nature, or is she shamelessly flirting with them? Let’s just say they are lovers, coniferous and sublime.

Two sets of contemporary artwork will provoke your imagination and memories of the sacred town. Sun Wahyu, will reveal the honest and childlike side of memory through his clay art and painting, whilst Morin Zasly illustrates the flirtatious connection between beauty and the nature.

Naïve and effortless. Although it may appear to be so, Sun’s art is anything but simple. The pastel color and dream-like nature of his work delves into the subconscious of the youth. His childlike style creates a peculiar sense of familiarity, fusing the real with fantasy, surreal moments with scenes of meditative fantasy - allowing the viewer to embark on their own personal journey, evoking those raw emotions that inevitably get buried with memories of the past.

Through his paintings and a set of clay installation, Sun characterized his interpretation of ‘Moksha’ - the last of Hindu scheme of values. The organic shapes, subtle color and innocent ambience he created represent what it means to loose, to free, release, let loose, let go and thus also to spare, to let live, to allow to depart, to dispatch, to dismiss and even to relax, to spend, give away and open oneself to the perfect freedom, an indescribable state of non-differentiation, a proximity to the Divine within.

Sun claimed that each piece in this collection manifests his personal contemplation of the sun, which he just realized after finishing the whole work. Just like the sun as the center of life, it is something that he never thought during his artistic process – while it has always been there all along. He said, “Funny that my name is ‘sun’ and my Chinese name also refers to the light, as if it’s just meant to be.” It probably is.

A year ago, i decided to let go my full time job and go somewhere. Coincidence or not, i choose Ubud to be the place for me to spend a whole month. I came to Ubud first time when i was a kid, maybe when i was 6 or 7 yo. Actually I barely remember how does it look like back then, except for the famous duck dish. So I came there once again a decade later, without any expectations. I stayed there took pottery class, walked around the town, enjoyed the sunlight, bike on the side of padi field. The only thing that i felt different about this place was the energy flow. I might sounds crazy, but yes, i know there is a huge amount of energy in this town, like giving you a healing energy to your wound. After a month, this experience really change the way i see my life, maybe not all but i found something that I valued after the day i came back.

At the last day there, i know that i want to have an exhibition in Ubud someday. I believe, universe works in an unexpected way (and funny). Now, a year later, i got a chance to have an exhibition in Ubud, along side with my friend, Morin Zasly. I'll be very glad if you guys could come to this exhibition, not only to see the exhibition but to celebrate life as well. :-)

note: A day after i got back home, i read a random article in local newspaper. An article about Ubud , from the article i found the meaning of the word Ubud. It means Obat (Medicine) in local language. So maybe that's why i could feel some kind of energy in this town, a healing energy.

Hi everybody, sorry for lack of updates :\ been quite busy these days. So the news is that i'm taking a pottery class again, which is quite nice. How are you all doing? I hope you all doing good as i am :)
So i just got back from Bali on Wednesday night, it was wonderful. Bali's light seems like Kusama Yayoi's installation of "Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity" (at least for me).

Anyway, the 1 month trip was very... delightful. It wasn't great (well, it was), but i feel it more in a beautiful way. As i mentioned before, i never knew that Ubud is a very beautiful little town. They're balanced in the pleasure and spiritual way. Keeping the tradition alive while the modern things also grown. The town is more lay back than Jakarta. Everything seems nice, like you're falling in love, lol (maybe i am with ubud).

I felt the positive energy around the town, even i still amazed by that kind of feeling. I never had it before when i was in Jakarta. The people there more humble and nice, like they are sharing a good energy to you. Even the plants and the animals did (lol, i know it sounds kinda cheesy, but that's what i felt there). I enjoyed my 7 - 8 hours sleep, a simple fruit salad in the morning with cup of coffee, the morning sky changing color, the sun, the heat, the rain, everything there make me feel grateful about what i had.

The first day i arrived in Ubud, i felt very stressed and heavy, by the time, i learn how to appreciate myself and life even more. And suddenly it almost a month passed, then one day i just woke up very early, and sit at the balcony, alone in the dark. Somehow i can feel something in my heart, something that saying thank you for everything. I'm still amazed with this feeling too, how my mind and heart quite changed since the first time arrived.

We were lucky enough to be able to see Ngaben ceremony. It's a traditional Balinese cremation ceremony. I saw it when i was a little, but barely remember than the big black bull. And now i back as an adult with my mind more aware to surrounding. When they start the ceremony (which is more like a traditional wedding party), and heard the instrument, i'm crying, lol. it just beautiful, about the dedication they have for holding to the tradition.

We stay in a small accommodation room owned by a little family. So sometimes they were kids playing around the accommodation. One day there was a boy that came to play with the host kids. Fortunately i brought 2 sets of animal toys (at first i thought i was going to use it for artworks), they just come and start to play with it (of course after they asked my permission). This boy, when he played with it, start to hum a traditional kecak song. Oh well it was surprised me, i never heard any boy in Jakarta hum a traditional song, instead some stupid Indonesian song.

So for me, it was a very beautiful trip, more than just learned about ceramic. I learned many things there. Especially for feeling more grateful.

Family, Parents, Father, Mother, Son, Daughter, Brother, Sister, Grandfather, Grandmother, Uncle, Aunty, Cousin, Nephew, Niece, Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, Brother-in-law, Sister-in-law, Husband, Wife, Pet and Food.

Featuring 13 artists with works ranging from paintings and crafts to contemporary pieces, EAT WITH FAMILY explores what constitutes a family and factors that affect its functions. Artists interpret the theme in relation with their personal experience as a member of respective families themselves. Each works is personal and a reflective of what a family means today.

The act of eating together, especially in Asian societies, is a common social practice and is seen as a means which promotes family interaction. It is also a major element during important festive occasions such as Lunar New Year celebrations and birthdays. The presence of food then in such situations is essential for this social interaction to take place. Hence, food has become an integral and almost inseparable part of a family’s makeup and contributes to the strength of the family unit.

In conjunction with Eat With Your Family Day 2010, this exhibition is a collaboration with Centre For Fathering.

Hi, how you guys been doing lately? It's a week to go before going back to Jakarta. It's so great in here, i found lot of cute shops, it's like finding a magic shop in a secret alley.

I've posted the photos in my facebook though,
Maybe later, i'll try to post it here or just open a flickr account.

Anyway, here's some of the things i made, it's not the final product, since i found the final products color really don't represent me at all, lol.
Well, it's the first trial, hopefully i could make some more in the future.

It just experiment though, making things, coloring and stuff like that. I got some sculptures, but haven't got chance to take pictures of it, i'll post it later.

Oh well, i has been a very great month, its like emptying the vessel to be ready again :) i never knew before, bali is such a great place. shame on me.
